Sod Care

At OB Garden Center, we understand that you as a consumer had many choices to select from when purchasing your sod. For that reason we want to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing us for your gardening & lawn needs.

Here is a list of important steps you should take in order for your sod to grow properly:

  • For the 1st 30 days you must water your sod daily (30 min. before sunrise and 30 min. after sunset)
  • Do not cut your lawn for the first 2 weeks.
  • After the 2nd week do not cut your lawn less than 3 inches high the very first time.
  • After the initial cut then you may cut your lawn every 2 weeks and reduce the watering to once daily for 45 minutes (either in the morning or in the evening).
  • During the summer keep in mind that your sod may suffer from fungus, chinch bugs and other insects. Prepare yourself ahead of time for the summer by contacting a pest control company that specializes in lawn extermination. Our recommendation: Massey Services Inc. (813) 891-1841
  • Finally, once your sod takes root, it is crucial to fertilize in order to obtain greener healthier sod. We now carry starter fertilizer for the initial boost, please contact our office for more information.

Again, thank you for choosing OB Garden Center; we look forward to servicing your gardening and lawn needs again very soon.

Sincerely,
